As the 9-5 progressed, it got more reliable but GMs cost cutting got more evident. Most people agree that the '04/'05 year is the best for the 9-5 aero. anything newer is ugly and the interior is cheap, and anything older has sludge issues. Also, go over to the 9-5 forums, and do some reading.
